Here is a copy of the email I received this morning from Ken Cook, President of EWG (Enviornmental Working Group).  Petitions serve the collective good as a voice for change in the policies that have reinforced our culture’s addiction to oil and its bi-products as well as the addiction to consuming chemicals that haven’t (ever) been safe for the Earth or her beings.

Dear Mokihana,
Your voice was heard in the halls of Congress today. You and more than 85,000 concerned activists signed our petition to support EWG Action Fund’s Kid-Safe Chemicals Campaign, and strengthened the call for immediate reform of our broken toxics law.
And what an impact you had. On the heels of your petition being delivered, both chambers of Congress moved forward by introducing the Safe Chemicals Act today. We have activists and supporters like you to thank for this exciting day.
We hand-delivered your signature to Senators Frank Lautenberg (NJ), Barbara Boxer (CA) and Congressman Bobby Rush (IL-01), and they were overwhelmed by the determination of you, our EWG Action Fund activists.
It would have been impossible to fit all 85,000 of you into the conference room with us, but you were certainly there in spirit. That’s why we put together a photo album of our meetings with congressional leaders Lautenberg, Boxer, and Rush.

Tell your friends to sign!
We will continue to tell your representatives in Congress how many of their constituents want them to support our Kid-Safe Chemicals Campaign. If your friends haven’t already signed, we still need them!
Tell your friends to click here to add their name now.
Thank you for signing. Together we will change our toxics law to ensure that chemicals are kid-safe.
Sincerely,

Ken Cook
President, EWG Action Fund

Fresh Air is a birthright, let’s stand for it!

This is arguably the strongest and most important chemical-free and fragrance-free policy in existence for the workplace.

…The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a federal agency under the Department of Health and Human Services, recently issued a policy on indoor air quality that will affect all CDC offices (owned, leased and rented) and more than 15,000 employees nationwide. Among a host of indoor air quality standards, the policy includes specific guidelines restricting the use of fragrance in cleaning and personal care products.

“Go green,” has become the phrase of the century.  Every body’s talking about it, and every body is collecting what’s called the “Body Burden.”  In the simplest definition “Body Burden” describes the amount of harmful chemicals and pollutants in our body.  EWG Environmental Working Group has a quiz that will take you through the rooms of a home asking you questions about the products and practices you and your family use.  If you’ve gotten to the point of wanting to know about your body’s toxic burden this quiz is less painful than paying for a blood-drawing ‘body burden test’ and will give you lots of food for thought and steps to get greener and cleaner.
